THE ART OF BEER: MEET ALICE BOWSHER

THE ART OF BEER: MEET ALICE BOWSHER

Say HELLO to the person behind the pen and the look of all our beers this year, London based illustrator Alice Bowsher. From monkeys to malt, she took on the brief to bring our cans, tap badges and events to life in illustrative form throughout 2018.

From Strawberry Hells Forever earlier in the year, to Tank Party, our summer cup design, Oktoberfest Lager, and finally Beer 2018 - we’ve seen Alice’s drawings take over the Camden seasonal range, popping up at events across the UK and even taking to Camden Town tube station.

Q+A

Describe your illustration style in three words: fun, friendly, handmade

If you were to brew a beer with anyone in the world, who would it be? Dolly Parton and if she was too busy then Jonathan Van Ness.

Who’s your biggest inspiration? This changes all of the time. At the moment it’s Maud Lewis who was a Canadian folk artist.

Are the characters you drew for our cans of people you know? They aren’t actually. Sometimes I draw my friends and sometimes I draw people who I have seen on the train in the morning and these ones are all train people. So if you’re reading this and you ride the overground from Forest Hill to Dalston junction between 9 and 11am on week days and think someone on the can looks like you, it probably is.

Describe your ideal beer drinking set up (People, place, music, food etc): Somewhere sunny with pizza and a group of best buddies.

Who’s your favourite character from your wall mural at our Enfield Brew House? I like the cats holding arrows.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? I really wanted to be a pilot or an aeroplane engineer.

What’s your go-to-doodle? Birds, monkeys and dogs are the flavour of the month right now.

What’s your favourite Camden Beer? Strawberry Hells Forever of course.

THE THING IS, WITH OUR SEASONAL BEERS - ONCE THEY’RE GONE, THEY’RE GONE! OOF.
